Right Jewelry for Your Skin Undertone

If you’re a fan of fashion, you should know the importance of a good accessory. Wear a plain black dress and you might look boring, but add a scarf, a pair of earrings and a belt and you’re a glam lady who’s dripping with style. There’s a certain art to accessorizing properly, and finding the right jewelry for you is definitely a part of that skill. Finding out what your skin undertone is, can help you in that regard, but first you need to know that when we say undertone, we don’t mean skin color. Whether you’re dark-skinned or light-skinned, we each have either a warm, cool, or neutral undertone and once we figure out which one it is, it can help us pick not only the right jewelry, but the right foundation as well.

Warm

The first thing you want to do when checking your skin tone, is look at the underside of your wrist. Are the veins there green in hue? Then you’re probably warm-toned, and gold jewelry will look amazing on you. Since not everyone can judge the color of their veins so easily, another trick is to just look at your closet. Which colors look good on you? Earthy tones, orange, ivory white, turquoise, bronze, and similar? Definitely warm-toned, so pick gold, copper and bronze jewelry, and gemstones that match the clothes you wear.

Cool

Are the veins on the underside of your wrist blue? Then you’re likely cool-toned, and you’ll like silver, platinum and white gold. Rose gold is also something to consider, because cool-toned people usually have a lot of pink in their skin. Again, check your closet. Purple, deep blue and green, magenta, and light grey all look really well on cool skin tones. White pearls are also a good choice, as are cool-toned gems such as sapphires, emeralds, jade and aquamarine.

Neutral

If the veins on your wrists are a mix of both blue and green, it’s very possible that you have a neutral undertone. You’re lucky, because most colors suit you and you can wear any kind of jewelry and it will look pretty great. Generally, you don’t even have to stick to your own wardrobe when you’re trying to figure out which colors look good. Go to a store, grab several dresses in the same cut, but in different color, and then do some modelling. Take pictures, and later see what looks best.

Works for everyone

Want something that works for everyone, regardless of the undertone? Girl, you’ve got to get yourself some bling then, and wear diamonds. Ever wondered why diamond engagement rings are a universal sign of love and commitment? Because they’re gorgeous, and they make anyone who wears them look more beautiful. There, if you don’t want to bother with undertones or just can’t seem to figure yours out, diamonds are an option.

One last tip

Like we said, your undertone can determine the foundation you use as well, so a good idea is to go to Sephora or MAC or a similar kind of store and ask them to match you with a foundation. Once they pick a shade for you, they’ll be able to tell you your undertone.

Of course, these are by no means hard rules that you have to follow, they’re merely guidelines. Shades that look good on you will depend on your eye color and hair color, not just the undertone. The best thing to do is experiment and not limit yourself to anything. Play around with makeup and fashion and simply explore. You’ll figure out what fits you that way, and then you can build your style into something that you love, and that you’re proud of.
